Startup emerges with three-factor, no-password authentication.

A new authentication company has emerged from stealth with what it says is a three-factor authentication scheme that does not use passwords. Identité says its service, NoPass, uses a mobile app and a QR code on a website to authenticate the website and mobile device to one another in what the company calls "full duplex authentication."

Once the app is downloaded to an iOS or Android device, the user authenticates to the app, which then handles authentication to Web applications. The mobile device and Web application owner have the option to require a second factor of authentication at sign-in. Without the second factor, the company claims an authentication time of 10 seconds during initial setup and less time than that during normal use.
